Prettier than a "Ravishing Rose" - CoverGirl is Serving Us Creamy Petals

Lately, I've been trying to switch from wearing matte lipsticks every day to using cream lipsticks here and there. Of course, I'm not trying to switch from buying affordable products to buying expensive ones, so to Walmart's beauty isle I went, looking for some new products. There, almost immediately, I found my next gem: "Ravishing Rose" by CoverGirl.

Going from the color displayed on the bottom of its tube, I thought this lippie would be a creamy deep pink, so I had to buy it. Who doesn't love a pink that doesn't make your lips look ashy??? (I bought a few more lipsticks from this line also, but those will be covered in future posts.)

Now, it wouldn't be a fair review if I didn't mention that I expected this lipstick to have the same opacity as matte lipsticks. Because of my [possibly unrealistic] expectations, I was a little disappointed when I first put Ravishing Rose on my lips. Instead of the bold, in-your-face color that I'm known for, my lips were coated with a sheer, frosty pink that was a little underwhelming. I felt betrayed by the color chart at Walmart and the color presented on the bottom of the lipstick tube! (Even though the deep color of my lips might've just cancelled out the deepness of this lipstick.)

Never one to just accept that a product won't work for me, I continued with the rest of my beauty routine (which essentially comes down to applying mascara and eyebrow wax) and gave this lipstick another chance.

With the rest of my face "done", this lipstick shone, hunny! I had to go outside to see how it looked in natural lighting - and it looked damn beautiful. It got even better when I first posted a picture on social media: everyone, and I do mean everyone, complimented this lipstick. People were asking me where could they purchase it and were shocked when I said, "Walmart"! You always know you've found a winner product when people want to get in on it, too.

Totally random, but I've noticed that my cream lipsticks have a fragrance that my matte lipsticks do not. That may or may not bother you, but I found I liked the smell of Ravishing Rose. It doesn't smell too rose-like, but if roses really smell like "boo boo ooo", do we really want it to? (So sorry, couldn't resist inserting that Outkast line).

Now, it must be noted that this lipstick is not transfer-proof. It doesn't claim to be. And you may have to reapply every so many hours or so. For the price of this lipstick, I think that's a fair deal. Also, unlike matte lipsticks, this cream lippie isn't drying, so you most likely won't have to moisturize your lips before applying it. My personal opinion is that moisturizing your lips first might even interfere with the color application and make it more sheer, but you have to experiment with that on your own, lovelies.

No heavy kissing or this pink pout will be dunzo.

Overall, I feel like this lipstick holds its own weight. It was somewhat of an underdog, not a product that you'd expect to love at first, but then it warms its way into your heart with its sly, subtle beauty. If you're going for drama darling with your makeup, this may not be the lipstick for you. But if want a more chilled out, but still pretty look, I definitely recommend trying CoverGirl's Ravishing Rose!
