You're Giving Me a "Violet Voltage" - A Perfect RK by Kiss / Ruby Kisses Lipstick for Music Festival Season!

So, it's been a while since I came with a new lipstick for ya'll since I've been crazy busy, but as I'm dedicated to bringing you beauties affordable makeup, I had to come through today, especially while it's still music festival season. As much as I love a nice conservative lipstick, I also have a major love affair with bold, eccentric colors (which are absolutely perfect for any music festival look). So of course, when I see a bright purple lipstick, I have to get it. Enter RK by Kiss (or Ruby Kisses) Violet Voltage:

I'll be the first to tell you that purple lipstick on brown skin is amazing. Like gold eyeshadow, purple lipstick is one of those iconic colors for darker skin tones. However, like any lipstick, you have to make sure that it fits you (or that you make it fit you by using a lip liner, gloss, or other lip product along with it). I say that because when I say this lipstick is bright, I mean it is BRIGHT in your face. Like a "if it was one shade lighter, it'd be neon" bright. Or at least that's how it looks to me. And I know everyone doesn't like bright lips.

See what I mean? (Somehow, I think the brightness of this hair is actually working better with this lipstick than my usual dark hair.)

When I first put it on, I couldn't tell if I liked it or not. Like many light-colored lipsticks I've tried, it was a tad bit difficult to get a nice, even coat on my lips without putting 1,000, sure to be crusty later, layers on. And it might've been just me, but it seemed like for whatever odd reason, the color of the middle part of my bottom lip kept peeking through the purple pigment (I'm sure that was in my head, but if you try this lipstick and think the same thing, you're not alone!) Plus, I wasn't sure if it was a good match for my skin tone; I don't wear lip liner with lipsticks (only with glosses), but I think pairing a darker liner with this lipstick would make a gorgeous, possibly more flattering, combo.

Also, because this is matte, it is drying, but it feels more drying than other matte lipsticks I've tried from this brand. It almost feels as though I'm dragging the lipstick across my lips versus gracefully sliding it across. Of course, when I wear it, I put lip balm / shea butter on first, but too much moisture gets in the way of having a fully opaque color. 

And I'm not shy by any means, but when my lips first met this lipstick, I didn't know if I was ready for a color this poppin'.

In dim lighting, you can still tell that this lipstick wants to glow-in-the-dark so bad (no, it does not glow in the dark).

It's not for the faint of heart.

Overall, I do like this lipstick (and my man loves it, which is always a plus). But, I don't know if I would buy it again. However, don't let that stop you from buying and trying it for yourselves, loves! You might rock this one better than me.

• Make sure you moisturize your lips before applying this lipstick, but don't over moisturize as it can interfere with the lipstick application

• Stays on for a while, but needs to be replaced after eating/drinking/wearing for a while
• Very bright, attention grabbing color
