You Better "Pink About It" - Ruby Kisses/ RK by Kiss Gives Us Another Solid Lipstick
Everyone knows that I love a funky lip color, but the ever-so-classic pink lipstick is still my A1 since day 1. Like nude lipstick, it's perfect for every occasion, and there are plenty of shades out there that complement all skin tones. Admittedly, I may be a little biased towards pink lipstick because pink is my favorite color, but the fact that a little pink on the lips can make everyone look like a baddie cannot be denied.
Now, as much as I love a good product, I also love an affordable product - and affordable to me means $10-under products, not these $18-40+ products that other people claim are "so cheap!" For who? That's certainly not cheap for me. Even though expensive products generally get a good rep as being "better," I know that you don't have to sacrifice style or heavy cash in lieu of each other to look great or to keep your bank account looking great, so I've made it my mission to find affordable beauty products to bring out the frugal bad chick in you.
One company that I love that makes such products is Ruby Kisses (you may find some of their products under the "RK by Kiss" label). They have a multitude of beauty products, but since this is about their Pink About It lipstick, let's start there:
I was already familiar with this brand for years, but I only recently started experimenting with their pinks because I was using Wet N Wild pink lipsticks for the longest time (Wet N Wild is another brand that I love, so I will be doing posts on their products soon). I wanted a bright pink lipstick, but I didn't want my lips to look ashy, so I chose to take the risk and purchase it because, hey, if it looks ashy on me, I have lip gloss, and it wasn't even $3.00. So, I got it, put it on, and baby:
Now, I'm not gonna lie. When I first put it on, I was reminded of that bright pink lipstick Nicki Minaj was wearing for a minute, and I didn't know if I really had "the look" for this light of a pink. But after taking several more pics (and getting Instagram approval), I knew this lipstick was a keeper.
Here's where I should give lipstick/makeup newbies a word of advice: before you decide to wear a lipstick out of the house to socialize, do errands, or what have you, make sure you check what your lipstick looks like in the natural sunlight. You don't want to look cute in the house under the artificial light, and then look crazy when you step outside because the sun made your lipstick 100x brighter, and now it doesn't flatter your skin tone.
Also, with any pale-ish, matte lipstick (or maybe just the ones I purchase), they can be a bit drying, so I suggest moisturizing your lips before putting on the lipstick - I usually use a dab of shea butter, but of course you can use lip balm or any product you would like, just be careful of putting on too much because it can make the matte lipstick look greasy or even prevent it from adhering to your lips correctly. Also, pale lipstick can leave that nasty line on the inner lips, so I would be careful of putting too much on in that area. You can also put a napkin between your lips and press your lips closed on the napkin to remove excess product (make sure the napkin is a strong one so you don't have pieces of napkin stuck to your lips!)
